MASTHEAD FOR USGenWeb RootsWeb HOSTED SITES:

(Sep 4, 2007) By the NC

As some of you may know, I attended the FGS conference in Fort Wayne, IN in mid-August where the USGenWeb Project hosted a booth. While there, I had the pleasure of meeting Sean Lloyd [again], Associate Community Development Manager for rootsweb.com and Donna Popelish, RootsWeb Help desk Manager.

It was a pleasure to finally meet Donna, who is long overdue a huge THANK YOU from the USGenWeb Project for her care and responsiveness to the Project. She is one of our unsung heroes for her service!

After the election, but prior to September 1, I received an email from Sean, requesting a teleconference with David Graham, RootsWeb Product Manager; Anna Fechter, Community Operations Manager The Generations Network; and Sean.

While I agreed to the teleconfernce, I reiterated to them, that I was not National Coordinator yet. But I did agree to listen.

And listen I did. Rootsweb and The Generation Network are very eager to work with us, (the Board and the Project membership), to facilitate a design for our masthead that distinctly displays our mission and goals while at the same time addresses their business concerns and decisions. I have no reason to believe that this negotiation will not be done in good faith, as both parties are eager to enter into a mutually acceptable agreement.

The conclusion of our conversation was that they would prepare and forward to me a proposal for presentation to the Advisory Board and the Project.

I will keep you all abreast of the discussions as they progress.

NEGOTIATIONS
(Sep 5, 2007) By the NC

Please feel free to forward to Project lists.

I want everyone to know, that the Board is very receptive to suggestions, comments, ideas and concerns project members have. The negotiations are in the infancy stage.

You can contact us privately or post to the Project lists. The Advisory Board page has been updated to reflect Board members names and email addresses. http://www.usgenweb.com/about/advisoryboard.shtml

CONTINGENCY DISCUSSIONS
(Sep 11, 2007) By the NC

In conjunction with the masthead negotiations/discussions, the Board and I feel that a contingency discussion is also prudent to have.

I offer the below as discussion points only. We welcome all Project members to express their concerns, opinions and to ask questions.

Please forward to XXGenWeb Project lists.

Again, below is intended as discussion points *only*. Main discussion will take place on the -Discuss list.

--Please forward to all USGenWeb Project lists--

To all USGenWeb Project members:

as it relates to the USGenWeb Project.

Good morning all --

There has been much discussion throughout the genealogical community and USGenWeb Project lists regarding Ancestry's IBC launch. Subject: [ABChat] USGenWeb National Mail Lists

Last month, you may remember, I proposed to add a section to the USGenWeb Standard Rules on "Mailing Lists Managed by the Advisory Board." [Motion 07-18] It was not well-received. : )

Most of the criticisms focused on the severity of the penalties involved for infractions of the rules, a potential conflict with the Bylaws, and the concern that the NC's authority was being compromised. I withdrew the motion a couple of days later so that the AB could consider and revise the motion in response to the expressed concerns of the membership. This was received somewhat more positively. : )
